try to find out the language during a pandemic.They
want to apply it to their students as well as possible. They have always learnt
about many kinds of online teaching and learning. I am Amin Wibowo. I’m an
English teacher at Semarang 42 junior high school. I’m used to applying online
teaching and learning before pandemic hit Indonesia and over the world in
December, 2019. At the beginning, I used Kahoot, quizzes, Google Form to
monitor student’s understanding. I can assist my students using online
accurately. I got easy to assist them, there were class engagements,
individual's report and analysis of the average of those questions which
students got average, intermediate or advanced. Beside that, I always use
online cause avoid waste of paper and cultivate the environment. I have special
experience at my school related to online teaching and learning platforms.
Actually,
the team has made a decision on a certain platform. Microsoft office teams 365
is the one that they use around our school. However, there are many weaknesses
to cover all the material of online teaching and learning. I tried to present
on January, Friday8th, 2021 about Google Classroom platform. Unpredictable, all
teachers used it so far.
In
March, 2019 teachers and educators in Indonesia were shocked because they
should change the plan face to face into online teaching. They must learn many
ways to teach online. They have been old, they are forgetting about the
instruction of the platform, they don’t know how to use it, and many reasons
are difficult to teach through online.
Most teachers use platform such Quizizz, Kahoot, Menti.com, Padlet, Slidego.com, Ms. Teams 365, Google Classroom, Ruang Guru, Rumah Belajar. etc. Each platform has advantages and disadvantages especially from the using, the pricing , the quota, etc. They have joined a formal course but are not getting the result. Many courses have offered promotion prices but no one course can persuade people to join that course. I have tried to practice English using social media such as English 101.com, Interactive English.The next challenges are that on average 775 students are bored in online teaching and learning. It’s because the teachers don’t use a variety of ways of teaching online, they don’t engage their students in teaching and learning. Most teachers and educators teach them one way to release the assignment without engaging them.
They don’t have techniques on how to motivate students using icebreaking to teach, aperseption, how to teach fun learning. One day, I got the information of registration for the TEFLIN Language Improvement Language Course in December, 2019. The course will start in January and the end March 2021. I’ve gotten the email from TEFLIN. I got a username and password to join the online course. I am very happy when I learn about the English language using online training. There are many lessons I learnt about online teaching. The online course provide the platform contains Unit 0. It contains an Introduction to the online training course, Your whatsapp community, Technical Supporting. TEFLIN Language Improvement Course begins Unit 0: Introduction to the course. The first page written “Welcome to the course. “ “This first introduction unit is very short, it will only take an hour or so to complete. In this unit we will not start studying English” He or she asks questions related to the last material then next the same until the last unit.
Unit 1 Talking about yourself and others. It contains 11 topics such as Prepare for the unit, Greeting Learners and starting lesson, Talking about our Daily Activities etc. There are 8 units starting at unit 0 the end at unit 8. I’m interested in learning using an online course platform cause there are materials and there are many instructors. Each group has two instructors. It develops online teaching using grouping. There are schedules between asynchronous and synchronous. The first week the trainee learns about unit 0 till unit 2 the every Tuesday the instructor's guide through zoom. I’ve experienced this here, the teacher supports the students, He/She uses Whatsapp and zoom to interact with each other. The trainee can repeat and go ahead depending on the speed and the trainee’s competency. It's a very adaptive curriculum, based in the student centre.TEFLIN Language Improvement Course has been designed to be as easy as possible. It designs four language skills: Listening; Speaking; Reading and Writing.
Listening skill is the first emphasis to learn a language like mother repeat to speak up “mother” every time so the child will always hear the next step he or she can listen to the word” mother” well and perfectly. Language is repetition and exercise every time and every day. The goal is to introduce ourselves to each other using Whats-app, make sure we know how to use the website and also to think about the best ways to study online effectively. It shows us that online training contains materials that completely helps the students to improve English language skills. I tried to design it into my own online training for my students. It provides all the material in one semester. I combined google slide, google docs, google meet, google site one platform. Some students tried to access the online training based on the schedules. After they learnt the materials, I also joined the Google Meet. For this, I guide them using the Whats-app community. They can share their presentation or record there and the others respond to each other. I can appreciate them using it. It’s still a powerful media.Teachers and educators don’t not give enough assignments but also teach and learn more importance because the educators or the teachers pay attention to the process of learning. I collected all knowledge, skill, and experience. I got many online seminars to become one project. It is a very useful teacher and educator in online teaching and learning so far. Students feel free to enjoy the platform during pandemic.
As guardians will accept this platform to encourage students in improving English language skills.I don’t need to prepare the material every week in online teaching but It has covered all materials one semester. I just correct and check the small quiz, the assignment, the material. I always make it perfectly on display. It’s also suitable with the Assessment Competency Minimum which has many kinds of questions such checkbox, multiple choice, drag and put the sentence, short answer etc.I have also used collaboration with other platforms such as quiz, Kahoot, Google Form, Google Slide, Google Site,Google Docs. It will be saved in google drive on our computer.
The students are very
happy because there are many easy to operate on their mobile phone or
computers.I hope students pay attention to the platform and they learn all
happily. No hesitation to study and to learn English language improvement
courses related to the contextual language. I designed the material based on my
own profile, situation,habit and culture. The contents also contain students'
live skills and start at the easier material from the difficult one.I will
improve our English skill language using an online teaching and learning
platform as a Learning Management system. It covers the content,contextual, and
stimulates students’ higher critical thinking skill by using many kinds of
questions.
