Language Learning Strategies

 

Rebecca Oxford explains that there are several strategies to learn language. The strategies can devided into  direct and indirect.

1. Direct Strategies

These strategies are related to the language require mental activity in your mind. There are 3 kinds od direct strategies , namely memory,cognitive and xompensation.

Memory strategies

It helps you store and retrieve new words. Here are same example strategies.

- Clasify or reclasify words.

- Generate an imagenary

- Review the words periodically.

- Express the words.

Cognitive Strategies 

It enables you to understand and produce language.

- Listen to native.

- Use resources 

- Compare similarities and difference the target and your language in the language system like sound, word and synatax.

- Take notes or summarize word you have heard or read.

Compensation Strategies.

It can used to overcome your limitation in the foreign language.

- Guess the meaning...

- Overcome your limited productive skill.
