Discovery Learning

 

Takaya stated that concept  of Discovery Learning is student involvement and their knowledge utilization are essential to get a new knowledge (Takaya, 2009).  Thus, the student involment and their ability relate to previuos knowledge and new knowledge in the learning process to assist students to be able to remember and understand the material.

Today's material is greeting and leave taking. The learning objective is students are able to understand greeting and leave taking both formal and informal.

Learning Activities.

Opening

The teacher greets students.

The teacher check their attendance.

Core Activities.

1. Stimulation

The teacher asked about how to greet in the morning to your teacher. When do you meet your teacher at 7 a.m what do you greet ?

2. Problem Statement.

There are 2 dialogues as folows:

Text 1

Salma:Hi Lia. How are you doing?

Lia      : Fine, and you?

Salma : I am fine, thank you.

Lia       : Anyways, I have a class. I have to go now. 

 Salma : Alright,. Good bye, Lia

Lia       : Bye bye, Salma.

Text 2

Firman : Good afternoon, Ms. Hidayah

Ms. Hidayah: Good afternoon, Firman.

Firman: How are you today?

Ms. Hidayah: Fine, and you?

Firman: I am fine. Thank you.

Ms. Hidayah : Good bye, Firman.

Firman           : Good bye, Ms. Hidayah

3. Data Collection

Students was asked the expression of greeting in text 1. What expression of leave taking in text 2.

4. Data Process

Students compare both 2 texts formal and informal greetings and leave takings. They display the data dan they conclude the formal and informal greetings and leave takings.

5. Verification

Students determine the result in other group. They analyze the result with other article books etc. The teacher reinforce and explain the conclusion

6. Generalization

The students are able to understand the formal and informal greetings and leave takings independently.

The teacher explains the result of the conclusion

Closing

Teacher and student make a reflective.

Teacher prays with students by saying Hamdallah.

This is way how to engage the students and stimulate them to be able to remember and to understand what they are learning.
